Rheumatoid arthritis is a disorder in which the body’s immune system mistakenly attacks the joints, resulting in painful inflammation in the joint area and deformation. The onset of RA is restricted to small joints, such as those found in the hands and feet, but can later advance to target organs, such as the heart.

It is believed that rheumatoid arthritis is mainly brought on by a genetic component that may make a patient more susceptible to developing the disorder.
